What does the transverse sensitivity specification mean
in an accelerometer data sheet? Transverse sensitivity
is the sensitivity of the accelerometer at 90 degrees to
the sensitive axis of the sensor. If you were to refer
to the conventional sensitivity in the sensitive axis
direction as axial sensitivity, transverse sensitivity
is the sensitivity at 90 degrees to that.

Drop shock testing measures the acceleration of an
object when dropped onto a hard surface by
characterizing the acceleration levels generated when an
accelerometer is dropped onto a rigid surface. Similar
dynamic responses can then be inferred to the object on
which the accelerometer is mounted.
