Chart Recorder Tip of the Month
|
 Collecting
data with a Chart Recorder is important in many of
today's industries, especially where regulatory
agencies are concerned. Some test challenges are
less forgiving than others - you may get just one
chance at your data when it comes to geophysical
seismic exploration or destructive testing.
But what if you forget to turn on your printer,
or set it at the wrong speed, or didn't load the
paper? What if your colleague spills coffee on
your data? Or, what if you collected too much
data?
It is best to not take chances with valuable
data - and the solution is to use an instrument
with simultaneous electronic and paper recording
options. The Yokogawa DL750P eliminates these
worries.
The DL750P has eighteen Chart Recorder printer
speeds, from 10 millimeters per hour, to 20
millimeters per second. For even more chart speed,
use the Reprint feature for effective chart speeds
beyond 200 mm/sec. With the Reprint feature, you
may print only the data which you want - just
select it with a pair of cursors and print at the
speed that you select. The Reprint feature also
allows to more closely examine transient events by
printing at a higher Chart Speed - can your
Recorder do that?
You can also partition, scale, label, annotate,
and even re-format your data for entry into a
professional report. Don't re-run that test - save
it to the hard drive, and Reprint it again later -
in another format - or print a different part of
the waveform for closer examination. Up to ten
meters of waveform can be saved to memory and hard
drive for later use.
If your chart recorder is missing these
features, take a closer look at the two-in-one
ScopeCorder, the Yokogawa DL750P.

Transformer Testing with WT3000 Power Analyzer
|
|
Application:
Power transformers used in utility applications
undergo a wide range of tests to verify and
guarantee their performance before installation.
Loss tests measure the core and winding
losses of the transformer.
No load loss tests are performed with the
secondary open circuited. Under this test the
transformer has a high power factor load
condition.
The short circuit test results in a large
inductive load producing a very low power factor.
It is very difficult for conventional watt
meters to accurately measure the load loss watts
at power factors of 0.1 and lower. The
Yokogawa Model WT3000 Power Analyzer is an ideal
solution for making high accuracy power
measurements at extremely low power factors.
3 Phase Transformers
Basic
Accuracy of 0.02% of Reading
Simultaneous RMS and
Mean Measurements
Low PF error of 0.03% of
VA at zero Power Factor
Measurement of Phase
Angles between phases.
Solution:
The WT3000 Series Power
Analyzers have a basic power accuracy of 0.02% of
reading, and a bandwidth of DC,
0.1Hz to 1 MHz.
The low Power Factor error, 0.03% of
apparent power, is especially beneficial in making
precision power-loss measurements in
applications such as Core Loss and Transformer
testing.
High-performance Digital Signal Processors, DSP's,
along with a special Digital Filtering technique
are used in the input measuring circuits to
achieve high accuracy measurements and high speed
response.
The data update rate can be set from as fast as
50 ms, 20 readings per second, to as slow
as one reading every 20 seconds.
In the design of the WT3000 series, care
was taken to minimize the effect of common mode
noise, power line noise, and pulse noise, thus
ensuring the
highly accurate and stable
measurements required for efficiency measurements
and calculations.
These Power Analyzers are available with up to
four Input Elements. Self-contained input ranges
are from 7.5 to
1000 Volts and 0.250 to 30
Amps. An
optional Delta Calculation function allows the
user to calculate individual phase voltages from
the line voltage measured in a three-phase
three-wire system.
This makes it possible to determine the
Phase Voltage in Transformer or other device under
test where a neutral line is not present.
Simultaneous measurements of True RMS and
Mean Voltages can be made on each phase.
A unique simultaneous
measurement mode of normal power parameters and
harmonic analysis functions is
incorporated into the WT3000.
Engineers need to make many diverse power
measurements during the design, development
and testing of their product.
Now the user can measure the True RMS value
of Voltage and Current, and get the values of
selected harmonic orders such as 3rd,
5th and
others, as well as the Total Harmonic Distortion,
THD, without having to change the
measurement mode as in previous instruments.
The phase angle between each Voltage and
Current and the phase Voltage-to-Voltage and
Current-to-Current in a three-phase system can be
measured.
This new simplified measurement mode can speed up
the testing process, help eliminate human error
and misunderstanding of the
instrument setup, and improve overall measurement
productivity.
Measurement Solutions:
Basic
accuracy of 0.02% of reading
Simultaneous RMS and Mean Voltage Measurements
Low
power factor error of 0.03% of Apparent Power at
zero PF
Measurement of Phase Angles between phases
Phase
Voltage calculations from Line Voltage
measurements
Voltage and Current Harmonic analysis
Standard GPIB Interface and optional Ethernet
Color LCD Display for Numeric Data
and Waveform display

Fiber to the Home: Monitoring the FTTH
network from the Central Office.
|

With the expanded
rate of FTTH deployment many providers are
starting to experience an unforeseen dilemma: how
to monitor this new fiber network for segmented
failures in a live traffic environment? With
networks using coarse WDM in a fiber containing a
1x16 and now even a 1x32 splitter, how can the
provider monitor this new fiber plant for health
through the splitters to the end user while still
providing services is the new challenge? Yokogawa
has the solution that is already being deployed at
major telephone companies in Europe and Asia. We
have specially designed certain key features into
our low cost AQ7270 line of OTDR to address this
functional requirement. Our solution is the
software and hardware needed to provide live
service monitoring that can isolate which strand
of fiber beyond the splitter is cut or damaged
while not impeding the services to the rest of the
FTTH subscribers. Specialized pulse shaping,
filtering, signal processing, high dynamic range
at key pulse widths, and automation software
enables the network provider to monitor the FTTH
fiber plant. Our proven and deployed solution is
available today. Call to schedule a meeting and
demonstration today.

Introducing the
NX4000; Yokogawa's highly flexible, low cost 40G,
43G & 44G tester next generation tester. |
|
We are proud to introduce
our 40/43/44G solution for client and line side
testing in the telecommunications market. Not
only a full feature set SONET/SDH & OTN and
Ethernet test tool, the NX400 offers some unique
benefits to lower your cost of testing and
production. Our versatile encased blade model
allows various Optical Modulation techniques to be
tested from the same chassis. While all 40G
testers support NRZ optics, the NX4000 goes beyond
the expected by supporting DQPSK, DPSK and
Duo-binary as well. Working closely with industry
partners, Yokogawa quickly surmised the need for a
flexible design that addresses not only today's
line side formats but also the myriad of optical
modulation techniques being developed for tomorrow
and beyond. During our development we made strong
efforts to generate great price savings for our
customers at the same time engineering "future
proof" into our line side interface.
By separating the modulation and measurement
functions from the optical interface we can offer
our design with lowered cost and greater
flexibility while allowing highly scaleable
product. In the end, our customers save money,
can test all formats and are assured of having a
product to meet tomorrow unknown requirements
regardless of which way the industry goes.
