On March 1, Mensor introduced the Series APC800
Automated Pressure Calibrators. This new product
range complements the popular APC600 and will
initially consist of two models – the high
performance APC800-X and the economical APC800-L
both of which are available in single or dual
range configurations.
The APC800-X utilizes high performance pressure sensors to realize total uncertainties to 0.008% of reading. Featuring pressure ranges from 2 psi up to 6000 psi, the APC800-X includes a unique control system that provides fast, stable pressure control with a high degree of reliability in addition to quiet operation. The APC800-L High Pressure Automated Pressure Calibrator is available in ranges from 2000 psi to 6000 psi, with lower ranges possible in dual range configurations. Providing 0.01% of range total uncertainty, the APC800-L utilizes the same sensors found in Mensor’s popular Series 6100 Digital Pressure Transducers. This provides an economical approach to performing automatic calibrations at high pressure. Both the APC800-X and -L utilize a color screen and an overlay keypad with dedicated jog and step functions for ease of use. Remote operation can be accomplished via the provided IEEE-488 or RS-232 communication interfaces. Effective April 1, 2007, Mensor will no longer
provide repair and calibration services for Mensor
products that utilize a Quartz Bourdon Sensor.
Mensor discontinued quartz manufacturing
operations over 10 years ago but has continued to
make every effort to provide repair services for
certain models.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide continued support for these instruments. If you have one of these products that is still in use, please contact our Sales Department or visit our web site (www.mensor.com/discontinued.htm) for information on replacement products. This notice applies to the following Series/Model numbers: 10100, 10205, 10550, 10620, 11600, 11603, 11900, 11910, 12275, PCS100, PCS200, System 1000, 1200 and 14000. Please note that this notice does not apply to the Model 8100 Quartz Pressure Calibrator. |

For many years Mensor has been recognized in the
precision pressure marketplace for our outstanding
customer service and support. That level of
excellence is conveyed on a daily basis to all
customers that contact our Customer Service
Department, where Larry Adams has been the
Customer Service Coordinator since 1999. As a
founding employee, Larry is uniquely familiar with
the complete portfolio of Mensor products. His
first job position at Mensor was in the Machine
Shop, where he later became Supervisor and
Manager. The next challenge was moving to the
Production Department, where he served as a
Manager for several years.
Larry also worked in the Engineering Department as a Technician and then later became a Production Technician. Larry’s different job positions and experience with various Mensor products over many years provided him the necessary experience and background to become the lead person for Mensor’s customer-focused service and repair operation. His primary hobby (until the grandchildren came along) was troubleshooting and repairing various electronic and electrical appliances. Larry still owns a vacuum tube tester from the old days of repairing TV’s and can still repair almost anything that is broken. Now most of his personal time is spent attending sporting events with his two granddaughters. |

Immediately following every Mensor Kaizen event is
an employee meeting which reviews the objectives
and tasks of the week. In the PowerPoint
presentation at the closing meeting, there is a
slide titled MUDA, which we all recognize as a
Lean manufacturing buzz word for waste. Most Lean
training is geared toward the manufacturing aspect
of a company. It is a philosophy which focuses on
reducing waste to improve quality; mainly in the
production area. Mensor’s President, Paul Neilson,
decided it was time to take some of our Lean
philosophies to the offices and cubicles
throughout the building.
An entire day in January was designated as 5S Friday for employees with an office or cubicle. After the initial grumbling, the day was a pleasant surprise for everyone involved. Instructions were to Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. Within a few hours, large plastic bags were sitting outside offices filled with MUDA! Items that could be recycled or placed back into stock were sent to the warehouse. Tables were available for special “treasures” no longer wanted, but could be used by someone else proving one man’s junk is another’s treasure! The results were the removal of approximately 2,000 pounds of scrap electronics, 4 cubic yards of paper and 3 cubic yards of trash. Everyone agreed that sustaining our areas will be the hardest challenge to uphold. |

Many countries have special requirements or
certifications for the type of products that we
sell. In the European Union, these requirements
are typically referred to as CE; in China, they
are called Pattern Approval Certification and in
Russia GOST certification. The purpose of these
certifications is to assure the products meet
established standards for that country. These
standards are established to assure that the
products will not cause harm to people or the
environment or disrupt infrastructure systems that
exist in the country.
For Russia, GOST certification requires that we send products, manuals and supporting documentation for testing our instruments. The testing takes from 3 to 6 months to complete and requires significant investment, but without the GOST certification, this market would be closed to Mensor and WIKA. An additional requirement is that the instruction manuals must be translated into Russian. This process can take an additional 3 to 4 months to complete. In the USA, when we introduce a new product, we can immediately begin to market and sell that product to our US based customers. In countries such as Russia the process of market introduction is delayed by up to 9 months due to the additional preparation required to sell the product. However, in this global marketplace, a large market like Russia, China or the EU cannot be ignored. |

This year marked Mensor’s return to the
Measurement Science Conference (MSC), which was
held January 24 – 26th in Long Beach, California.
The theme of this years conference was “Apply
Metrology – Rule the World”.
MSC marked the debut of a new product introduction, the Series APC800 covered above, and a new Mensor booth which includes ample bench space for displaying the large number of new products we will be introducing this year. Be sure to stay tuned to future editions of this newsletter for more information! Mensor and our parent company, WIKA, displayed a broad range of products in addition to the new Series APC800 which included the APC600 Automated Pressure Calibrator, Series 6000/6100 Digital Pressure Transducers and Series 2400 Digital Pressure Indicators. A new version of the “Wally Box” (Model DPEC260) which now features enhanced performance, an integrated pressure/vacuum pump and simultaneous display of pressure and mA or Volts was also in the booth. For a complete listing of where you can find Mensor at technical conferences and exhibitions for the remainder of the year, please visit the Events page on our web site. |
