Ask An Engineer

Q: What are the benefits of the Honeywell patented push-pull type OSSD outputs on the FF-ST2 and FF-ST4 Series safety light curtains?

AThe Output Signal Switching Device (OSSD) outputs allow for low impedance at any time, while regular open collector type OSSD outputs have high impedance when OFF. Additionally, Honeywell OSSD outputs allow for cable lengths up to 100 meters.

What's New

Sensors Used in Sleep Apnea Machines

Honeywell offers a number of solutions that may be used in Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) machines which form a key treatment option for sleep apnea conditions. They include flexible heaters as well as pressure, airflow, and humidity sensors to help monitor, detect, or control machine performance and patient comfort.

Occlusion Detection in Infusion Pumps
Using Force Sensors

Our FSS Series force sensors are designed to provide reliability, accuracy, and repeatability for medical infusion pump applications. The sensor is designed to help ensure there are no blockages in the tube that delivers medication to the patient. It features a stainless steel ball in a plastic casing engineered to withstand 4.5 kg of force. The media-isolated FSS eliminates the need for sterilization after each use. The small device is easily installed and can be reused after tubing sets are changed.

Two-Wire Gage/Absolute Pressure Transmitters
for Hazardous Locations

Honeywell's Model 811FM Series pressure transmitters are designed for environments where liquids, gas, or corrosive vapors occur. They feature welded, stainless steel diaphragms and hermetically sealed steel cases offering corrosion and shock resistance as well as reverse polarity protection. The two-wire 4 mA - 20 mA output has a high signal to noise ratio, allowing for cable runs up to 10 miles long. Potential applications include electrical power generation stations, petrochemical, and brewing plants.

MICRO SWITCHTM Technology in Action

As you wait to board, you see the fuel truck pulling up alongside your plane, but probably do not give much thought to the explosion-proof MICRO SWITCHTM products at work behind the scenes to keep the planes, fuel, passengers, and baggage moving on schedule. Without explosion-proof capability, potential arcing could cause sparks that could ignite fumes from the jet fuel.
